What To Look For in A Wine Bar

Wine drinking is one of the best ways to enjoy oneself or to have a chat with friends. If you want to enjoy wine outside, there are outside wine bars that will surely suit you. However, as a customer you should know that there are some things to consider before going into a wine bar. Aside from enjoying a good bottle of wine, here are some other things that you should consider in a wine bar.

Check the wine list

This is the first thing that you should check. The best wine bar does not only offer the different varieties of wine, you should make sure that they have the best kinds. Be sure to check the prices too because some places are pricy when they sell good wine.

Check the wine quality

Even if the place has the best brands and best types of wine, make sure its quality is supreme. Some wines get dull if it's stored too long so be sure that you get the best bottle that they have. Some wines also crystallize so make sure that your wine bar knows all about these aspects. Certain types of wine also require ?breathing? to get their best taste.

Check the menu

A good wine bar must always have a menu that compliments their wine list. If not, that means you won't be able to enjoy yourself fully. There are specific types of wines that are best partnered with different meals. So make sure that the bar?s menu gives you some of the best partners for your favorite wines.

Check the ambiance

Most people become regular customers because of a bar?s ambiance. Always evaluate the ambiance of the bar before deciding to come back. It?s better if there is good music that you can enjoy while chatting, and it's important if you can also identify with the crowd.

Check the service

Make sure that service is excellent. Enjoying your bottle of wine will be best if you are entertained by good waiters. Most bars usually have a wine expert so make sure to have a little chat with them when you order your glass or bottle to learn something new. Be kind enough to leave a tip if you enjoy their service, you can be sure that they will serve you better when you return.

Whether you are drinking for your own enjoyment or with friends, remember this checklist. Enjoying a good wine will be so much better in a bar if you take note of these tips.

Wine is the oldest and most popular beverage. In our modern world, where elegance and traditions are treasured, wine is associated when having a complete hearty meal. It cleanses the meticulous palate that considers taste and flavor as the basic fundamentals of a meal.

Wines are produced in different parts of the world where contemporary and classic fermentation are being used to produce an extra - ordinary taste. Based on the recent market survey, Australia is one of the many countries that produce the best wines.

A Featured Australian Shiraz Article

Argentina Wines Are Closing In On #1

Argentina is the fifth largest producer of wines in the world, but apparently this South American country is gearing up for a first place finish! With more than 1,000 new wine companies opened for business in 2005, exports and profits rose more than one third from the previous year. This is wonderful news for Argentina's economy, as well as for those wine enthusiasts in other areas of the world that haven't had the pleasure of toasting a glass made from Argentine criollas, or native vines. Although the majority of Argentinian wine is exported to North America and the United Kingdom, new markets are on the rise in Finland, Norway, India, Malaysia and Vietnam.

No wonder! With the perfect climate and soil conditions for growing grapes, Argentina creates wines of superior quality. The Malbec grape produces a large portion of Argentina's red wines with its characteristics of berries, plums, figs, and vanilla. European varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon with overtones of pepper, chocolate and coffee, and the velvety plum and berry-like Merlots and Syrahs are harvested in the shadow of the majestic Andes Mountains and then produced into "bottled poetry", as so aptly stated by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Exceptional quality and flavor at reasonable prices -- what more does one need? Oh, yes -- a corkscrew, a glass and a toast! Now where did you say Napa Valley was??!!

Picking The Perfect Wine Rack For Your Home

For many people starting out, it can be a very difficult and oftentimes overwhelming experience picking out the perfect wine rack. While there are many things to take into consideration when deciding which rack is perfect for your needs, deciding which rack to use to store your collection should never be a cause of stress.

One of the first things to consider when choosing a wine rack is whether you want to store your wine in a vertical or horizontal rack. While some prefer a vertical rack because it allows the labels to be easily viewed, wine stored on these types of racks are more likely to have the cork dry out and shrink causing air to enter the bottle and contaminate the wine. It is for this reason that horizontal wine racks are the most popular choice.

The second and third factors to take into consideration when picking a wine rack are the material it will be constructed of and the style of the rack. There are a variety of styles of wine rack, the most conventional being wall mounted, counter top, hanging and free standing. The most common wine racks are made of metal or wood. If metal is your preference, you can select Vintage View wall mounted wine racks, counter top wine racks, or custom made wrought iron or steel hanging or free standing wine racks. While metal wine racks are commonly made from wrought iron or steel, wooden wine racks are available in an array of finishes. The most frequently used woods used to construct a wooden wine rack are maple, mahogany, and walnut, however pine and redwood are also often used. Choose from single or double finished wall mounted wine racks, free standing wine racks such as Wine Cubes, Waterfalls, and Curved Corner Racks, or counter top racks such as the Pyramid wine rack.

The last thing to consider before purchasing a wine rack is the size of the rack and the cost. Wine racks for personal collecting can cost anywhere between $20.00 and $1000.00, it all depends on the size, style and finish. Even though there are a few things to consider when purchasing a wine rack, the variety of racks out there means that finding the perfect rack for your wine collection is simply a matter of knowing where and what to look for.

Greek Island Wine - Taste the Place

Living on the island of Paros, I drink a lot of Greek island wine, yet I am not a connoisseur. I am an imbiber. I drink what is available at the time and place. Just as Greek light and air have influenced art since the dawn of civilization, so do the atmosphere and sun at our local taverna influence the taste of the wine before us.

All restaurants and tavernas on the islands serve an "open" or barrel wine at usually a very low price - sometimes the price is so low I double the tip out of guilt. I always try the local offering and am only rarely disappointed. When sitting on a shaded veranda with the sound of the sea lapping against the sand and either the villa-clad hills or open sea in the background it would have to be a very bad wine to take away from the sense of well being. Though, I have found that when the Greek male host is especially boastful of his own wine, it tends to not be to my liking, usually because it is too sweet.

While some of this open wine may come from the proprietors' home stock, most comes from a large plastic jug and is produced at a central island winery. Each island tends to specialize in a different variety. Santorini produces mostly white wine using the Assyrtiko grape that was originally cultivated there and now is grown all over Greece. Paros is famous for the quality of its Mandelaria red grape.

Perhaps when comparing the world market including France, California, & Australia then wines from Greece would not sell well on the High Street wine shop shelves. Yet when in Greece at one of the many "fine dining" restaurants, enjoying the well-cooked lamb or the octopus, would it not be a sacrilege to order a wine from Germany, for instance? There are many quality bottled Greek wines. Here on Paros we have the Moraitas family-run winery producing superb hand-crafted wines for that special occasion.

My recommendation, whether you are a wine connoisseur or just an imbiber like me, is to make your next winery tour on the Greek islands. Come to Paros and I will show you my favorite taverna at Palm Beach, where you forget life's problems regardless of what you are drinking.
